NOAH - A VALIANT MAN
(Genesis 5-8)

INTRODUCTION:

A. Noah, whose name means "rest," is held up to all generations as a  righteous man, pleasing to God.
B. Noah was born about 1000 years after creation.
C. He was the tenth generation from Adam.
D. Noah was descended through the lineage of Seth (Genesis 4:26; 5:6-29).
E. Noah lived in a time of great evil (Genesis 4:16-23; 6:11,13).

DISCUSSION:

I. "...NOAH FOUND GRACE IN THE EYES OF THE LORD" (Genesis 6:8).

 A. Noah was guided by God.
  1. James 4:7-10.
  2. Genes is 6:18.
 B. Noah lived in faith.
  1. Hebrews 11:6.
  2. Hebrews 11:7.
 C. Noah was a worker.
  1. Noah moved with godly fear to obey God.
   a. Hebrews 11:7.
   b. Genesis 6:14-22.
  2. Noah did all that God asked of him.
   a. Genesis 6:22.
   b. I John 5:3.
  3. Noah preached righteousness.
   a. Psalm 119:172.
   b. I John 3:7.
   c. Genesis 7:1.
   d. II Peter 2:5.
   e. Galatians 6:9.

II. NOAH WAS A VALIANT MAN.

V      A. Noah was vigilant.  Noah saw the evil all about him, but he did not
              become entangled in it.
             1. I Peter 5:8.
             2. Romans 12:2.
A      B. Noah abounded in the work of the Lord (I Corinthians 15:58).
            1. Noah built the ark and saved his family (Hebrews 11:7).
            2. Noah brought animals into the ark (Genesis 6:19,20).
            3. Noah prepared the ark for habitation (Genesis 6:21).
            4. Noah entered the ark (Genesis 7:1,7).
L      C. Noah led an exemplary life before God.  His life stands as a 
             pattern for all to follow. 
             1. James 3:13.
             2. II Peter 3:20.
I       D. Noah inclined his heart unto the word of God (Psalm 
            119:38,112).
A     E. Noah was a man who acknowledged God's counsel (Proverbs
            3:5,6)
    F. Noah drew near to God and in so doing saved himself and his
           family.
           1. Amos 3:3.
           2. Psalm 145:18-20.
T    G. Noah was thankful to God.
           1. Psalm 100.
           2. Genesis 8:20.

III. NOAH WAS DELIVERED FROM DESTRUCTION.

 A. II Peter 2:5,9.
 B. Genesis 7:1.

IV. NOAH LEFT THE OLD WORLD BEHIND (II Peter 3:6).
 
 
 
 

CONCLUSION:

A. If we heed Noah's example we, too, can be delivered from a sinful world.
 1. Romans 1c5:4.
 2. Romans 1:25-32.
B. God is longsuffering toward us and desires our salvation (II Peter 3:9).
C. God wants us to listen when he speaks.
 1. Matthew 17:5.
 2. Hebrews 1:2.
 3. John 20:31.
D. We have an invitation to enter Christ's rest (Matthew 11:28-30).
E. We are admonished to watch.
 1. I Corinthians 16:13.
 2. I Thessalonians 5:5,6.
 3. I Peter 5:8.
F. We are to be prepared and not be taken by surprise.
 1. Ephesians 6:13-17.
 2. Matthew 24:37-39.
G. We are to be doers of the word (James 1:23-25).
H. We are to walk in the light.
 1. I John 1:5,7.
 2. I John 5:4,5.
I. We are to preach the word (Mark 16:15).
J. God will deliver us from this evil world (II Peter 2:9).
K. We will become new creatures leaving the old sinful self behind 
 (II Corinthians 5:17).
