- The main spokesman of the “friends” (Job 4, 5, 15, 22).
- Claims a “revelation” (4:12-21).
- Speeches:
- Job’s affliction is the result of something bad in his life.
- Irritated because Job’s “blasphemous” words keep him from devotion.

- “You sinned because you thought God was too far away to see.”
- Great truth: The majesty of God.
- The error: Assumed that Job was
wicked; unsympathetic; not a good friend.

- Made 3 speeches (Job 8, 18, 25).
- Follows the thought of Eliphaz – but is much more “dogmatic.” He thinks Job is too impious and
wrathful.

- Job’s children died because of their sins! Job needs to repent!
- Describes the woes of the wicked, and expects Job to get the message.
- The last speech of the friends – he cannot answer Job’s arguments.

- Mistake: Reasoned backwards! He goes from a mistaken view of Job’s
condition to a mistaken view of the cause.

- The “blusterer”: Ran roughshod
over Job. The “mean” one.
- Only 2 speeches (Job 11, 20).
- Accuses Job directly of wickedness.
His punishment is too good for him.
- He presses the wicked man’s woes to the extreme.
