THE CHRISTIAN VERSUS SIN
  • Romans 6:1-7:25

DOES THE AVAILABILITY OF GRACE JUSTIFY SIN (6:1-14)?
  • The question:  Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound (6:1)?
  • The answer:  No!  Baptism shows that the sinful life is over and the new life has begun (6:2-14).

DOES THE FACT THAT WE ARE “UNDER GRACE” (AND NOT LAW) JUSTIFY SIN (6:15-7:6)?
  • The question:  Shall we sin, because we are “not under law,” but under grace (6:15)?
  • The answer in three questions (6:16-7:6):  No!  For –
    • Don’t you know that you must obey the one to whom you have yielded (6:16-20)?

"Don’t you know that there..."
    • Don’t you know that there is fruit at the end of life (6:21-23)?
    • Don’t you know that you must serve the law that is “alive”     (7:1-6)?

IS IT SAFE FOR ME TO DRAW THE CONCLUSION THAT THE LAW IS SIN (7:7-12)?
  • The question:  Is the law sin (7:7a)?
  • The answer:  No!  The law and sin are two very different things (7:7b-12).

IS IT SAFE FOR ME TO DRAW THE CONCLUSION THAT IT IS THE LAW THAT CAUSES DEATH (7:13-24a)?
  • The question:  Was then that which is good made death unto me (7:13a)?
  • The answer:  No!  For it is the law which reveals the situation as it really is (7:13b-24a).

IS THERE ONE WHO CAN BE MY DELIVERER (7:24b,25)?
  • The question:  Who shall deliver me from the body of this death (7:24b)?
  • The answer:  Jesus Christ (7:25)!
