PROVERBS 21
(Proverbs for You: Continued)

Sin Words

1.    High look (v. 4):  Haughty eyes, to lift up one’s self.
2.    Proud heart (v. 4):  Lustful heart, unlimited desire.
3.    Plowing of the wicked (v. 4):  The tilling of the wicked, for sinful
       reasons.
4.    Hasty (v. 5):  To urge or press, here without the guidance of the Lord.
5.    Lying tongue (v. 6):  Covering all kinds of lying.
6.    Robbery (v. 7):  Violence, to oppress or destroy anyone.
7.    Froward (v. 8):  Perverse, foolish, deceit, fraud.
8.    Strange (v. 8):  Guilty; literally “foreign” to what they should be.
9.    Brawling, or contentious (vv. 9,19):  Ready to be a part of strife or
       discord.
10.  Desireth evil (v. 10):  To have a strong affection for.
11.  Scorner (vv. 11,24):  Scoffer, who sets aside sacred principles.
12.  Wicked (vv. 10,12,18,27,29):  Mixing and reversing right and wrong.
13.  Stop his ears (v. 13):  Shuts or closes his ears (Acts 7:51-60).
14.  Anger, strong wrath (v. 14):  With reference to resisting right things.
15.  Iniquity (v. 15):  Vanity, trouble, referring to the nature and
       consequences of sin.
16.  Love pleasure (v. 17):  2 Timothy 3:1ff.
17.  Love wine and oil (v. 17):  Thus violating 20:1 and 23:29ff.
18.  Transgressor (v. 18):  Unfaithful, one who acts hypocritically.
19.  Foolish (v. 20):  Connected with ungodliness (literally, “to be fat”).
20.  Proud (v. 24):  Presumptuous, arrogant.
21.  Haughty (v. 24):  Proud or arrogant.
22.  Proud wrath (v. 24):  Arrogant pride.
23.  Slothful (v. 25):  Lazy.
24.  Coveteth greedily (v. 26):  An earnest desire—stated here with double
       emphasis.
25.  False witness (v. 28):  Lying against someone.

Sin Solutions

1.    The all-abilities of the Lord must be remembered (vv. 1-3).
2.    Principles for conquering and for peace (vv. 22,23).
3.    No counsel can expose a weakness of Jehovah, and no preparation
       can avail if we do not depend on Him (vv. 30,31).

Conclusion

    A “negative” principle (v. 16).
    A “positive” principle (v. 21).
