Proverbs 5:
The Power of Male-Female Relationships

INTRODUCTION:  Can you name Bible men who fell because of sexual immorality?

DISCUSSION

I. THE NEXT PLEA OF THE PARENT (5:1,2).

    A. You really need to pay attention to this (5:1).
    B. It is for your own good (5:2; see Deuteronomy 10:13).

II. THE POWER OF MALE-FEMALE RELATIONSHIPS (5:3-21).

    A. There is a “bad part of town” (5:3-6).
         1. She has tremendous drawing power (5:3).
         2. There is nothing good in the results (5:4-6).
    B. There are reasons to hear me (5:7-14).
         1. Listen!  Don’t go near there (5:7,8).
         2. You will give up— (5:9-14).
             a. Honor (5:9).
             b. Years (5:9).
             c. Wealth (5:10).
             d. Labor (5:10).
             e. Health (5:11).
             f. Self-esteem (5:12).
             g. Heritage (5:13).
             h. Fellowship (5:14).
    C. There is one true way (5:15-20).
         1. A powerful illustration (5:15-17).
         2. The application: the rapture of married love (5:18-20).
    D. There is a third party (5:21).
         1. His name is Jehovah.
         2. He watches all paths of all people.

III. THE EVERLASTING RULE: SOWING AND REAPING (5:22,23).

    A. The negative side: sow sin—and your sin catches you (5:22).
    B. What you are REALLY doing is folly—no matter what anyone else
         calls it (5:23).

CONCLUSION

     A. How many famous people today have been unfaithful in the realm of
          sexual immorality?
     B. God has a plan for human sexuality.  Within that plan, people have
certain rights.  When we  exercise those rights, we have obligations.
In any case, there are real dangers.  Both men  and women have
power in this realm—and we are accountable for what we think, say,
          and  do.
