Home Lesson One Lesson Two Lesson Three Lesson Four Lesson Five
Lesson Two:
1. What are the five steps in this lesson?
2.. Match the scriptures or phrase with the proper step (each step is used twice).
3. God revealed His will to people as far back as the time when Adam and Eve lived. Commands given to Adam and Eve are found in: Exodus 2Genesis 2Genesis 9
4. This lesson is not primarily concerned with how God can speak, or how God did speak, but rather how God does speak today. His word is powerful in any form as we learn in Psalm 33:6,9: "By the of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the of his mouth...For he , and it was done; he , and it stood fast."
God clearly has the ability to communicate!
5. God chose various ways and people by which He spoke through the ages. This is taught in Hebrews 1:1,2: ", who at (various) times and in (many) manners spake in time past unto the by the , Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son..."
He spoke in order that people could hear, understand, and do His will.
6. Two examples of God’s ability to speak powerfully and clearly are .The Book of Mormon and the Nicene CreedGenesis 1 and Exodus 20
7. The transition between the first two steps in this lesson is taught in Matthew 17:5: "While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a out of the cloud, which said, This is my , in whom I am well pleased; ."
THE SON OF GOD
8. When God decided to announce His will to us in the Christian Age, He decided that it would be done through His Son. Jesus understood this, as we see in John 7:16,17: "Jesus answered them, and said, My is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do will, he shall know of the , whether it be of , or whether I speak of myself."
9. When God communicated His will to His Son, everything was communicated, nothing was lost or confused in any way. In Acts 2:22-24, Peter made the point that Jesus is God’s spokesman and that you and I have the responsibility to listen to Him: "Ye men of Israel, these words; of , a man of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: , being delivered by the determinate counsel and of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom hath , having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it."
10. As we continue to read the New Testament, we see the early church constantly appealing to Jesus Christ as the spokesman—the One to Whom God gave all authority (Matthew 28:18).
Match the following.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
11. But Jesus knew that He would not be on earth forever. So He began to introduce the next step in this plan: He would send the Holy Spirit. Again, there would be nothing left out of the plan of God when it was given by the Son to the Spirit.
Match the following statements that Jesus made to the apostles:
THE APOSTLES (AND OTHER INSPIRED MEN)
12. Did the transition take place from the Holy Spirit and other inspired men with the same accuracy and completeness as it had from the Father to the Son and from the Son to the Holy Spirit? Yes No. Let us see what the Bible says about it. The first case where the apostles received the truth from the Holy Spirit is in Acts 2. Let us notice how the promise, the power, and the Spirit came just as the Lord had said. Note Acts 2:1-4,33: "And when the of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing wind, and it filled all the where they were sitting. And there appeared unto cloven tongues like as of , and it sat upon each of them. And were all filled with the , and began to with other , as the them utterance...Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having of the Father the of the , he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and ."
This was the fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel, as Peter specifically claimed in verses 16-21 of Acts 2.
13. The theme of I Corinthians 2 is, "The Power Behind Paul." In this chapter, Paul makes claims (as an apostle) about the source of his information. He claims that what he spoke and wrote was from the Spirit of God. Fill in the blanks from verses 9 and 10: "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the of man, the things which God hath for them that love him. But God hath them unto us by his : for the searcheth things, yea, the deep things of God."
14. In verse 16 of this chapter, he said that this meant that he had the mind of . He had access to all truth. There was nothing left out in that which the apostles received from the Holy Spirit. They were able, capable, and faithful in taking the word of God to the world of their day (See also II Timothy 3:16,17; Hebrews 4:12; II Peter 1:3; John 12:48-50).
THE BIBLE
15. Today, the Bible, with books in the New Testament, books in the Old Testament, adding up to 66 in all, is the complete word of God for all people on earth. We have what they had, except that we have it in written form. Many New Testament passages can help us understand the power of the written word.
Match the characteristics of the word with the correct reference:
16. Our plea to you is to realize the beauty and power of the Bible. Learn it, search it, and rightly divide it.
Match the statement with the proper verse.
17. Three Psalms that exalt the Bible are Psalms 1, 19, and 119. Match the items below with the proper Psalm (each Psalm is used more than once).
Give the Bible a chance to make a difference for good in your life!
